Antoine Fuqua is developing a film adaptation of Marc J Gregson’s Sky’s End, Deadline reports.
Gregson’s debut young adult fantasy novel, published in January by Peachtree Teen, follows Conrad, a 16-year-old boy living on a floating island, who vows to rescue his sister from their evil uncle. He is forced to enter a trade that involves killing gorgantauns, menacing creatures with steel scales.
The book is the first installment in a planned trilogy; the second book, Among Serpents, is slated for publication next year, with the finale, Downfall, coming in 2026. In a starred review of Sky’s End, a critic for Kirkus said the novel “provides a skillful blend of action, suspense, and comic relief” and is a “thrilling and brilliantly realized series opener.”
Fuqua, best known for directing films including Training Day, Olympus Has Fallen, and The Magnificent Seven, will develop and produce the adaptation.
Gregson confirmed news of the adaptation on Instagram, writing, “I need to sit down. This really is unbelievably exciting, and I’ve been eager to share these wonderful details with all of you. I hope you’ll all jump up and down and cheer and celebrate with me! Imagine the floating islands, the giant monsters, the thrilling hunts, the bloody duels, and Conrad facing down his enemies.”
