Shirley MacLaine will tell the story of her life and career in a new memoir in photographs, People magazine reports.
Crown will publish the legendary actor’s The Wall of Life: Pictures and Stories From This Marvelous Lifetime in the fall. The press says that MacLaine “offers her most visual and candid book yet, giving readers an unprecedented glance into a life like no other.”
MacLaine, who turned 90 on Wednesday, burst onto the cinematic scene in 1955 with her role in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Trouble With Harry; She went on to star in films including Around the World in 80 Days, The Apartment, and The Children’s Hour. She earned six Academy Award nominations, winning in 1984 for Terms of Endearment.
She is also a prolific author, who scored a controversial bestseller in 1983 with her New Age–themed Out on a Limb. Her other books have included Dancing in the Light, My Lucky Stars, I’m Over All That, and Above the Line.
The Wall of Life will contain more than 150 photographs from MacLaine’s personal archive, along with stories about celebrities including Bob Fosse, Jack Nicholson, Bette Davis, and Frank Sinatra.
In her new book, Crown says, “MacLaine shares both intimate family memories and images from some of the most significant figures from film, entertainment, and politics. With her natural wit and charm, she reveals the stories behind each photo, exploring ambition, love, friendship, motherhood, art, political activism, and more.”
The Wall of Life is slated for publication on Oct. 22.
